In this new age of technology it is very easy to con people. This is done with phishing mails, email frauds etc. We have come across a new method to con. In this case a Publisher is using the technology to fake his news to lure prospective writers as clients.
In this funny incident we had made a compliant to the cyber cell in Mumbai and we got the following results. You will be shocked to see how using some tricks a publisher is creating his own image to increase his business.
We will explain the steps that has been taken by the Publishing firm, following which you will see the screenshots asserting our talks.
1. Create a Wordpress based website that looks like a legit site of a newspaper. It hardly costs INR 1500 per year.
2. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and J-Query to acquire content via I-Frame from a actual news / newspaper's website.
3. Create your content stating a big tie up with some other firm.
4. Share it across social media channels to lure and trap writers.
Okay lets cut the chase. We are talking about Raindrops Company a Publishing firm owned by Bernard Dsa from Bangalore, India.
He has created a website by the title Times Of Bengaluru.
Its very easy for anyone to understand that it is a wordpress based website. Do check the Images below they are self explanatory.
As we came to know that it is a wordpress based website we started our own research by accessing the following link
http://www.timesofbengaluru.com/wp-admin
This gives you the admin rights if you login here. but it required an email id and password. We were given the ID by the cyber cell as raindrops.bangalore@gmail.com. Now to verify that whether this is the account we clicked on the forgot password button and entered the above mail id. Actually not to our surprise that email id was accepted and we were asked to check the mail for reset link
By doing this the admin / Bernard Dsa might have received an email stating for a Password Reset :P
Now comes the Gmail ID to confirm whose id it actually is despite we knowing whose it is. We used the same method to check out.
1. Clicked on the Need Help in Gmail and entered the mail id raindrops.bangalore@gmail.com.
2. Bang ! this is what had appeared on screen.
Now Here are the details about the website we have received from cyber cell which also can be accessed online.
